Our Green Journey - A Look at PureCult’s Highlights of 2021

Our Green Journey - A Look at PureCult’s Highlights of 2021

When we started our journey last year, we began with a vision: to work towards making cleaning absolutely “clean” in every sense of the word, with no toxins, allergens, or pollutants.

Over the course of one year, much has happened. As the world gains increasing awareness on the looming threat of a climate crisis, it becomes more important than ever to create meaningful change towards minimising our impact on the environment. Change must be proactive. Change must be sustainable. And at PureCult, that is precisely what we strive towards. Over this year, we have continuously strived to inspire people to lead cleaner lives, and provide them with the solutions for greener cleaning through our range of eco-friendly and non-toxic products.

Because:

- Clean air matters;

- Clean water matters;

- Clean earth matters;

- Clean choices matters;

And #HowYouCleanMatters.

We're proud to share our progress with you, and we're excited to see where we go from here. Here’s a look at what we were up to in 2021:

  • Launched our Product Range
  • Through the year, we launched our range of home cleaning products made with the Earth in mind. With a driving philosophy to create non-toxic cleaners that are a combination of nature and science, we formulated and launched our range of household cleaners, kitchen cleaners, laundry cleaners and essential kits. To ensure the cleaners are biodegradable, we decided to harness the power of natural microbial agents as the primary cleaner and enriched the blend with essential oils, to add to the disinfectant properties of each cleaning product. With a driving philosophy to create cleaners that are a combination of nature and science, we formulated and launched our range of household cleaners, kitchen cleaners, laundry cleaners and essential kits. Some of the essential oils we use include:

    • Basil and Mint, known for their disinfectant properties
    • Geranium, containing antibacterial properties
    • Lavender, known for its soothing and pleasant scent
    • Lemon, referred to as the "jewel" of essential oils for its all-round capabilities
    • Patchouli, known to help ease stress and anxiety
    • Sweet Orange, for its antimicrobial properties

    One thing we noticed was that most home cleaners in the market contained harsh surfactants and left chemical residue, which can trigger allergies on the sensitive skin of babies and young children. Not only are Purecult’s formulations biodegradable (meaning they leave no residue on surfaces on clothing), the safe and gentle formula makes them baby-safe. We wanted to take things a step further and make our cleaners safe for all family members- even our furry ones! All of PureCult’s formulations are pet-safe.
    Having formulated our sustainable cleaners, we moved on to the next big step:

  • Launched Packaging Made From Post-Consumer Recycled Material
  • At PureCult, we decided to incorporate the ethos of "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" into our packaging. With an aim to reduce the amount of plastic packaging being introduced into the system, we set out to find a sustainable packaging decision that would positively impact the health and safety of the environment.

    After some research, we found the perfect answer to our question: Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) material. PCR material helps turn used plastic bottles into plastic pellets, which can be moulded to make new bottles. Our 50% bottles packaging uses 50% Post-Consumer Resin and are 100% recyclable, meaning they follow a circular path and contribute little to no addition to plastic waste. What's more, we have partnered with trusted recycling centres to ensure the recycled plastic meets the EU and US standards for packaging safety. We also took care to design our packaging such that it allows for maximum recyclability.

    “Recycled plastic is a great eco-friendly option, but wouldn’t it be great if we could even further minimise our plastic output?” This question led us to our next achievement…

  • Launched 750ml Refill Pouches and 5 Litre Cans for our Cleaners
  • There are a myriad of ways to live more sustainably, but the best way is to buy in bulk- especially in the form of refill pouches and bulk cans.

    Refill pouches help positively impact the environment in a myriad of ways, and offer benefits both for the consumer as well as in production. Compared to bottle packaging or other forms like glass, refill packs require drastically less water and energy to produce than the typical bottles they’re replacing. Moreover, they are easier to store and transport- resulting in less emissions.
    Similarly, purchasing bulk in cans also offers similar benefits. For the consumer, they offer savings in the form of bulk purchase and reduce the effort and emissions to transport and store them compared to their bottle counterparts.
    At PureCult, we are committed to sustainability at all levels and seek to make it a core aspect of all of our operations. Our packaging decisions further our cause to support sustainability, and are designed to reduce the amount of waste created without compromising on quality.
    This led us to our next big launch of the year:

  • Launched our Dishwasher Tablets with Plastic-Free Packaging
  • After the success of our dishwashing liquid, we decided to expand our product line to cater to dishwashers as well, and introduce an eco-friendly, non-toxic alternative to regular dishwashing tablets. Regular dishwashing tablets contain harsh chemical surfactants, and studies show that dishwashing detergent traces are left over after washing and can enter your body with your next meal. Beyond surfactants, triclosan, an antibacterial detergent ingredient, has been demonstrated to disrupt the microbiome and increase the risk of inflammation in the stomach.

    Seeing the need for a better alternative, we formulated and launched PureCult dishwasher tables. Our dishwasher tablets are made with plant, mineral, and enzyme-based components and contain no Sulphates, Phosphate, Chlorine, added scent, or added colour. They are biodegradable and can be used for all types of utensils ranging from steel to ceramic, leaving no scratches or residue behind.

    We believe in constantly challenging ourselves and doing better with every step we take. With our dishwasher tablets, we wanted to take things a step further when it came to sustainability, and we focused particularly on our packaging. Our efforts paid off-  PureCult dishwasher tablets are our first product with zero plastic in its packaging! It is made entirely of cardboard, and even the tape used to hold the packaging is paper-based and recyclable.

    What Next?
    This is it but a condensed list of everything we achieved at PureCult over the course of the year 2021. Throughout the year, our guiding vision helped us not only formulate sustainable products, but work towards innovating and finding ways to make even more sustainable changes that minimally impact the environment, and add to the cause of green cleaning.
    Purecult was started because we wanted to help preserve the world we live in, and live with nature rather than harm it. Our mission is to encourage people to be mindful of how they clean, and help them keep their homes spotless in a manner that helps nature rather than harm it. Change begins from within. It starts from the individual level. And Purecult works to enable the right, clean choice.

    All our cleaning products are made with plant-based ingredients and are biodegradable, meaning they leave no chemical residue in your home, your clothes, your dishes, or in our environmental bodies. That’s why we are proud to call ourselves Zero Heroes- we pride that our products contain zero sulphates, zero phosphates, zero artificial fragrance, zero added colour, zero toxic chemicals, and are completely pet-safe with zero animal cruelty involved in the production and testing.

    2021 was a huge year for PureCult- not just in terms of launching and creating products, but in terms of the dedicated family of eco-conscious consumers who have supported our efforts and joined us in working towards a greener, cleaner planet. Thank you for making our favourite moments from this year possible, and for being part of our Purecult family.
    We’re looking forward to sharing more new discoveries, launching more products, and reaching new heights in our crusade to catalyse the shift towards non-toxic, eco-friendly cleaning. We can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store for us!
