What does it mean to live an eco-friendly life?

Over the last few years, the usage of phrases like “eco-friendly living” or “minimalistic living” is increasingly visible on advertising materials, personal profiles as well as product listings. With so much noise around these phrases, it is difficult to understand what exactly they mean! So what does it mean? Let’s find out! 

“Eco-friendly living” roughly translates to environment-friendly living. To elaborate, adapting a lifestyle and making life choices that are sustainable in nature and minimize air as well as pollution and the damage caused to aquatic and forest life, while identifying other actions that help the environment like planting trees.

Let’s understand how one can move towards this approach across various spheres of life:

#1. The 3R Approach

One of the most fundamental steps that one can take towards eco-friendly living, the 3R approach stands for Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Firstly, identify and reduce things that are not completely necessary. Further, for example, instead of buying a single-use plastic bottle, one can go for reusable steel bottles. And lastly, the third R stands for Recycling one's waste on a regular basis.

#2. Opting for Eco-friendly Products

As customers, as well as brands, are more aware and sensitive to ecological concerns, there is a wide range of eco-friendly products available in today’s market for daily use as well as long-term products like stationery, clothing, home decor, cutlery, to name a few.

#3. Spread the word

That one is opting towards an eco-friendly lifestyle is certainly commendable, but the effort would be much more successful if they successfully convince more people to do the same! One can associate with organizations working towards this cause or spread the word in a personal capacity. 

Apart from these major steps, there are a lot of other ways one can go eco-friendly that include buying from local vendors, conscious efforts to reduce energy consumption, eating organic food, etc. Although not the easiest, the journey has many rewards like a better planet for our coming generations, reduced expenditure, and improved health.
