How to keep your home smelling fresh with pets

Love your dog but not their smell?

We understand.

We can’t imagine a home without our furry companions- literally, because the scent is always there! Keeping a clean home while also having dogs can be a challenge, but luckily, there are some relatively easy steps you can take to make it smell fresh again.

Here are some handy tips and tricks to get the best of both worlds, the love of a furry friend and a fresh-smelling home!

Tip 1: Use an air purifier

This tip is great especially if you have multiple pets. An air purifier is an investment that minimizes odours in the long run. Simply set the device in a corner and turn it on.

Air purifiers draw air into the machine, filter the odour particles, and release fresh air back into the space. It also removes airborne pet dander and hair, which can be helpful for guests with pet allergies.

Tip 2: Wash your dog items

One simple but often forgotten source of pet odour is- you guessed it- the pet's items! Your dog's toys, blankets, bedding and leashes harbour dog smells.

There are a few tips you can implement here. Pick one day of the week, and make it a wash day for your dog's things. After washing them, implement a rotational system for your dog's toys, so you prolong the life of the item.

In the middle of the week, when you notice the smell starting to build, keep the item smelling fresh with a fabric spray like PureCult Fabric Refresher, that not just removes odour but also has antimicrobial and antifungal properties, so you can extend the wash day of your pets' toys.

Tip 3: Use diffusers and scented oils

Regular air fresheners only cover up the odor, leaving the odour-causing bacteria still present. In contrast, diffusers and essential oil products can help reduce the odor-causing bacteria in the room.

Opt for essential oils that have antibacterial and antifungal properties, for the best results. Such essential oils include lemon, lavender peppermint, and tea tree. However, one concern about essential oils is that you need to be careful of the concentration you use. Alternatively, you can opt for a fabric spray such as PureCult fabric refresher, which is formulated using the goodness of essential oils like Lemon, Bergamot, Orange and Cardamom oil, giving you a fresh and clean home.

Tip 4: Use furniture covers

It's easier said than done keeping your dogs off of furniture- maybe you can't, or you just don't want to! Who doesn't love cuddling up next to their dog on the sofa?

One easy hack to minimise odours on furniture is to purchase furniture covers. These covers come with a waterproof coating, and are usually machine washable. Washing these covers once a week with a gentle, plant-based laundry detergent like PureCult laundry detergent will help ensure they stay clean, and ready for duty.

You can tackle odours during the week with PureCult Fabric Refresher- its unique formula doesn't mask odours but effectively removes them, leaving your upholstery smelling fresh and pleasant.

Pets make our lives better in a multitude of ways, and it is a joy to see them play about in our house. These are just a few of the techniques you can use to fight pet odors from fabrics. With a little bit of patience and the right products, you can keep your home smelling clean and fresh.
